G8 Power–American Muscle Re-Invented

When Ford re-introduced the retro Mustang to the American public in 2005, the muscle car era began anew.  Since that time, GM and MOPAR have joined the renewed exuberance for American muscle by producing a retro Charger, Challenger, and Camaro.  These vehicles invoke thoughts of the late 1960s and early 70s gasoline chugging, horsepower monsters.  With the exception of the Charger, all of the vehicles have been geared to the two-door public, and have been smaller and lighter than the traditional family sedan.  Those who love muscle cars, but have a family and a limited budget, were left admiring most of these new vehicles from a distance.  Not any longer.

In 2008, GM released the Pontiac G8 GT.  Based on the Holden Commodore SV6 platform, the G8 GT provides performance (muscle) that American drivers want with the luxury and space a family needs.  This car is a head turner and potentially one of the best kept secrets in the American automobile market.  The G8 GT generates 361 HP and can reach 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, all for under $30,000.  While it won’t outperform its smaller muscle car mates, it easily outshines similar cars in this class in both performance and price.  With a 400 HP GXP model slated for early 2009, Pontiac has re-invented “driving excitement.”

Consumers in the market for a quality vehicle with both room and performance should consider the G8 GT.  You won’t be disappointed.  And for good measure, the G8 GT will get 24 MPG on the highway.  How many other muscle cars can do that?  Plus, with the Obama administration and the Democrats in congress pushing “Cap and Trade” and supporting CAFE standards, buying a V8 may be a thing of the past.  Better gobble them up while you can.  The following YouTube compares the G8 GT with the Charger R/T.
